Who May Qualify?
To qualify for CDCP, you must meet all 4 program requirements:

be a Canadian resident for tax purposes

have filed your previous year’s tax return in Canada

have adjusted family net income under $90,000
-
not have access to private dental insurance
If you have access to private dental insurance, even if you choose not to use it, you usually do not qualify for CDCP.
What Services May Be Covered?
CDCP may help cover a range of preventive, restorative, and surgical dental services, including:
- Routine and emergency exams
- X-rays
- Cleaning [One hour per year]
- Fluoride
- Fillings
- Root canal treatment
- Some dentures
- Some crowns (not often)
- Certain oral surgery services

Some services require preauthorization before coverage is confirmed. Orthodontic services are not currently available under CDCP.
Will CDCP Cover the Full Cost?
CDCP pays a portion of eligible treatment costs based on CDCP established fees. Generally, patients have a co-payment based on adjusted family net income. Additional charges will apply as most clinic's fee are higher than the CDCP reimbursement or if the treatment is not covered by the plan. Before receiving treatment, patients should confirm active coverage and ask about any costs they may need to pay directly.

2026–2027 CDCP Update
Applications for the 2026–2027 Canadian Dental Care Plan benefit year are open. If you had CDCP coverage for the 2025–2026 benefit year and did not renew by June 1, 2026, you may need to re-apply and could have a gap in coverage.
Before booking treatment, patients should confirm that their CDCP coverage is active and ask about any costs that may not be covered by the plan.

Q: Who qualifies for CDCP?

Q: Does CDCP cover exams and cleanings?
A: CDCP may help cover preventive and diagnostic services such as exams, x-rays, and cleanings, subject to program rules and frequency limits. Note, at the moment CDCP only covers one hour of cleaning per year per patient. General recommendation of Canadian Dental Association is that you see your dentist at least 2 times a year for check up and cleaning.
Q: Does CDCP cover fillings and root canals?
A: CDCP may help cover fillings, root canals, and some other restorative and endodontic services.
Q: Does CDCP cover dentures or crowns?
A: Some denture and crown services may be covered, all require extensive collection of records (multiple x-rays, gums measurements, photos etc), preauthorization and not every request is approved.
Q: Does CDCP cover Invisalign or braces?
A: No. Orthodontic services are not currently available under CDCP.
Q: Will I still have to pay anything?
A: Always! Depending on your income, the CDCP fee schedule, and the treatment provided, you will still have a co-payment and additional charges.
Q: Can I have CDCP if I already have dental insurance?
A: No. Having access to private dental insurance makes you ineligible, even if you choose not to use it.
Q: Do I need to renew CDCP?
A: Yes. CDCP coverage must be renewed each year to confirm you still qualify.
